MASTER T.S.SHRIRAM (21 year old), S/o Mr.M.V. Thiagarajan, a III year B.Tech student of VIT University,Vellore can be easily called a prodigy in the art of mridangam playing. His Guru Kumbakonam Shri.N. Padmanaban is shaping him into a good Mridangist.

An exceptionally talented percussionist at such a young age, his competence in playing the mridangam has won him many prestigious awards. By his majestic playing, he captures the minds of the listeners. He has been a 'FIRST PRIZE’ Winner in all the music competitions held by various cultural organisations Viz. Gayathri Fine Arts, Asthika Samaj, Kerala Club, including seven consecutive 'GOLD MEDALS’ from Nehru Bal Samiti (Regd.) . Through this, he brought a good name to his college also.

His performance has been highly acclaimed by critics and audience alike and has received rave reviews by critics from leading newspapers like The Hindu (Young World), The Times of India (North Delhi Plus, School Times & Education Times), The Statesman, The Hindustan Times (School Times & North Delhi Live), “Soochna Bharti’ (Bharat Education) a weekly Hindi Newspaper published in the Capital,Dinamalar-Siruvarmalar,Dhinamani and Dainik Jagran City Plus, Malayala Manorama , Mathru Bhoomi , Virat Vaibhav (Hindi Daily), a leading monthly Tamil Magazine ‘Apporva Ragam’ for Music & Dance in Chennai.

Shriram has received the CCRT, Dept. of Culture, Govt. of India Scholarship for furthering this art form.

Shriram is a personification of perfect achievement. Late Shri.P.V. Subramanian (Subbudu), the veteran and most respected music critic of ‘The Statesman’ was stunned by his intelligent playing of the mridangam and was impressed with his convincing answers to intricate questions put across in the art of mridangam playing,once called him the 'NEXT BIG THING OF INDIAN MUSIC WORLD'.

Shriram has performed at all major sabhas in the capital and Chennai Viz. ' India Habitat Centre' , ‘India International Centre’, ‘Triveni Kala Chamber Theatre’, Russian Centre of Science and Culture, ‘Delhi Tamil Sangam’, Major Dayanchand Stadium (National Stadium), Pragati Maidan (Youth Pavillion), Lok Kala Manch ,Westin Sohna Spa & Resort,Hamsadhwani, Rathnagiriswarar Temple, Vani Mahal Mini Hall, AVM Rajeswari Hall, Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Bharat Kalachar & Kanchi Hotel.

He has given over 500 stage performances and even got a chance to perform at Chennai's prestigious Music Season concerts during 2006-2007 & 2007-2008.

Shriram was a brilliant student in the school as well, and has won many accolades in the class. He was awarded the ‘BEST STUDENT AWARD’ in his school for the year 2000 and a ‘School Topper’ right through.

He got the ‘BEST ALL ROUNDER’ award by DAV Public School, Pushpanjali Enclave during Annual Day Function of the school held in December 2004.

The highest prestigious award of Nehru Bal Samiti’s ‘KALA BHUSHAN’ was awarded to him by the President Padmashri Shri. G.P. Chopra of Nehru Bal Samiti at Russian Centre of Science and Culture, New Delhi in January 2005. He has consistently bagged ‘GOLD MEDALS’ from Nehru Bal Samiti for excellence in playing the percussion instrument Mridangam.

T.S. Shriram is also one amongst the few deserving students selected for the Indo-Russian Children's Cultural Exchange Friendship Exchange Programme in September 2005, under the aegis of Nehru Bal Samiti (Regd.). This exchange programme took Shriram on a 10 day tour of Russia, where he performed and participated in various cultural events.

On 11th September 2005, Shriram was awarded the ‘YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD’ by North-West Delhi Cultural Association, in recognition of his over-all performance both in academics and fine arts.

On 25th September 05, DAV College Management Committee, New Delhi honoured him with the ‘BEST MRIDANGAM PLAYER AWARD’ for his talent at national levels in the art of mridangam -playing. The award was presented to him by the President of DAV College Managing Committee, Shri.G.P. Chopra.

As a further appreciation for all his achievements this far, 'THALA BHAKTHI’ a cultural organisation preparing young talent in the art of mridangam-playing, felicitated Shriram with the ‘AWARD OF HONOUR’ on 9th October 05, at one of their grand functions held at Triveni Chamber Theatre, New Delhi.


AWARDS AND PRIZES!!

DAV Public School, Pushpanjali Enclave felicitated Shriram with an 'OUTSTANDING ACHIEVER AWARD’for his outstanding achievements in the art of mridangam playing during school annual day function held on 6th December 2005.

Shriram gave his Arangetram Performance on 2nd September 2006 at Triveni Chamber Theatre, New Delhi.

On 23rd November 2006, Shriram was awarded with a ‘MAROON BLAZER’ presented to him by DAV Public School, during annual day function, for securing more than 85% marks in 6th, 7th & 8th std. consecutively and a 'GREEN BLAZER' too in November 2008.

Shriram has performed at the prestigious venues Viz. Krishna Gana Sabha, Bharat Kalachar, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan etc. during December 2006 - January 2007 music festival season at Chennai.

March 2007 - the ‘BAALA LAYA NIPUNA’ award was given to Shriram by Gayathri Fine Arts, Rohini, for his outstanding skill and performance in playing the mridangam.

December 2007 - Think.com – School Leadership Program – Category – Best Student work among Private and other Government Schools at the National Level – Group-I (Classes X- XII) Shriram wins the First ‘WINNERS AWARD’ for designing his web pages on the topic ‘World Peace’.

June 2008 - Shriram was conferred the “NATIONAL BAL SHREE HONOUR 2007” by the Hon’ble President of India – Smt. Pratibha Patil for his creative excellence in the field of creative performance at Rashtrapati Bhawan. National Bal Shree Honour is conferred to the most creative children of India by the Hon’ble President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Bal Shree Honour is a significant endeavour to inspire the children to be self-reliant.

THE MOST MEMORABLE DAY!!!!

Shriram was conferred the ‘YUVA SHREE KALA BHARATHI’ award by Yuva Kala Kendra Trust (Regd.), Madurai for his achievements in the music field.

Shriram has performed in the ‘BALA BRUHMAM’ – an annual carnatic music festival show casting talented children, at Vani Mahal Mini Hall, Chennai organised by Ramjhi’s Issai Mazhalai & Jaya TV, for the past five years.

Shriram has also got Distinction in the theory & practical examination (Instrumental Music) of the Bi- Annual Session 2004 & 2005 from Bhushan Pratham Khand to Visharad Pratham Khand held by ‘PRACHEEN KALA KENDRA’, Chandigarh.
Shriram was honoured with an "AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE " by North-West Delhi Cultural Association, Rohini, Delhi for excellence both in academics & carnatic music (mridangam playing) - November 2008.

More recently, Shriram has performed in the UDGAMAM 2011 - Music & Dance festival of Young Budding Talents at India Habitat Centre, organised by International Academy of Mohiniyattam. “Padmavibhushan” Dr. Sonal Mansingh was the Chief Guest.

In appreciation of the endeavour made in the field of carnatic music, “THE SUBBUDU AWARD 2011” for Instrumental - Mridangam was presented to Shriram by Vishwaroopa Trust, New Delhi in one of the music festivals held by Vadakkuvasal held at Delhi Tamil Sangam on 30th July 2011.
In appreciation of the endeavour made in the field of carnatic music, “THE SUBBUDU AWARD 2011” for Instrumental - Mridangam was presented to Shriram by Vishwaroopa Trust, New Delhi in one of the music festivals held by Vadakkuvasal held at Delhi Tamil Sangam on 30^th July 2011. Former President of India Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has inaugurated this music festival.

He also participated in the Annual Day programme of Yuvavani service, All India Radio,playing mridangam(solo) which was broadcasted on 21st July,2009.
